Promoting Enterprise

Participants in the Rolex Awards for Enterprise discuss 21st-Century challenges at the Rolex Learning Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland. They gathered in honour of the 2010 Young Laureates, whose accomplishments were celebrated on 11 November 2010.

Anna Rose is founder and chair of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC), Australia’s largest youth-run organization, encompassing 50,000 young people. Named one of Sydney’s 100 Most Influential People by the Sydney Morning Herald, Rose co-authored the book Future by Us and is a regular commentator on climate and energy issues.

She is a member of the Australia Environment Minister’s Advisory Council on Environmental Education, holds a degree in Arts (Asian Studies)/Law from the University of Sydney and is a 2010 Churchill fellow. She sits on the board of the Foundation for Young Australians’ Young Social Pioneers Program.

A pioneer in forest canopy ecology, Margaret Lowman has devised ingenious canopy access methods to explore this “eighth continent”, home to about half of life on earth. Equipped with degrees in biology and ecology, and a Ph.D. in botany, Lowman is Director of the Nature Research Center, North Carolina Museum of Nature Sciences and a professor at North Carolina State University. She also serves as executive director of the non-profit TREE Foundation.
